Volcano season info

Select soccer is for players who wish to pursue the game at a higher level and may have decided to make soccer thier main sport. Many players still play multiple sports. The training provided will help them become excellent players and make them competetive when they get to the high school pitch.

Volcano S.C. provides there players with multiple avenues for player development. The first is in their direct contact with our trained coaches. Followed by a couple of summer tournaments followed by challenging league play. During the summers months we also provide them with a Club camp instructed by various professionals from around the state who love the game of soccer and have a desire to improve upon and teach the player new skills. And lastly Volcano S.C. introduced its winter academy in 2011. While most select players have the winter months off, our select players have the option of joining us during January, Feburary and March for skills training. The cost for this is included in their player fee. In 2012 we also will be providing goalkeeper training during this time.

Tryouts: Tryouts will be held between in May depending on state regulations. Players of all abilities are encouraged to attend the tryouts. It will give players and parents a chance to meet the coaches and give the players a chance to test their skills against other layers within our region. Typically, try-outs are a two day process with player selection and team placement with in the following 48 hours. Try-outs are free of charge.

Practices: Practices will begin soon after try-outs and the team is formed and continue until December. Days and times will be scheduled by the coach. Once daylight savings starts, practices will be moved to the turf under the lights in Centralia. Players should expect to attend three practices a week. Practices are typically held in Centralia or Chehalis.

Tournaments: Two or three weekend trournaments will be scheduled over the summer. Tournaments are used as a gauge to see where the team level of play is and to assess where the players are in their development so we can give them goals to reach through the remainder of the season.

Games: We have the ability to choose to play in a league that provides the best level of competition for the team. It is our goal to place a team at a level that is balanced for them yet challenging.Games start after Labor Day and continue into December. Games for G11-GU14 and BU11-BU13 are on Saturdays. Teams older that this move to Sunday's. League away games can be as far as Seattle or Portland depending on which league is selected by the coach.

Academy: Academy is held Janurary through March in Centralia on the Turf under the light. There are no games, only training during this time. It is a great time to have fun and learn to improve individual skills. This is included in the tuition.

Team camp: The Volcano S.C. team camp was put on this year by the folks from the Black HIlls Football Club! Technical Director James Charette and a contigent of top coaches came down and provided a great experience for our players. Our Thanks goes out to the crew from Black Hills for putting out a great team camp! We look forward to having them in summer of 2012.

Coaches:Coaches who apply for a coaching position at Volcano S.C. are now required to seek out and obtain coaching certificates. If a coach has a desire to coach with us we pay for them to seek certification. Many of our current coaches have state D(U14 and up) and E(U11-13) licenses. Coaches are also asked to attend the coaching clinics and online modules in an effort to continue there education. Starting in the 2011 season we also took steps to compensate our coaches. We believe that investing in our coaches is one of the best ways to invest in your player!
